Statewide book delivery plan announced for Vermont libraries
Montpelier Vermont state librarian Kathryn Nelson unveils a statewide book delivery system linking public and school libraries. Two small vans will cut costs to one third of bookmobiles and boost visit frequency. Local librarians will preselect titles at the regional library about three weeks before delivery, with vans delivering boxes to local libraries and returning borrowed books. The program aims for economy, improved service, and better use of Department of Libraries staff. Librarians may visit the regional library anytime, though predelivery visits are encouraged.
