Plan by Tuesday for evacuation at Vernon plant
Vermont officials move to prepare an emergency evacuation plan for Brattleboro and Windham County in case of an accident at the Vernon nuclear power plant. Gov. Deane C. Davis ordered the plan, to be ready by Tuesday, ahead of Atomic Energy Commission hearings in Brattleboro. The AEC Licensing Board will decide on a license to operate the plant later this fall. Kansas says it will seek to intervene in the Brattleboro hearings, asking to join with the Natural Resources Defense Council to review plans for nuclear waste deposits and to participate in the proceedings.
