Marlboro concert thrills Humphreys with Casals and Serkin
Vice President Hubert Humphrey and Mrs Muriel enjoyed a double dividend of inspired entertainment at the Marlboro College summer concert. Casals conducted the program as Rudolf Serkin performed Schubert and Mozart pieces. The Humphreys, greeted by old family friends, spent hours at the campus, then hosted a reception at Serkin’s home while Secret Service kept reporters at bay. Humphrey praised Casals and Serkin, recalling a 20 year connection with Serkin and expressing high regard for Casals’ conducting. The visit followed a brief stay in Vermont and a campaign stop in New Hampshire two years earlier.
