Connecticut mill turns water power into private energy hub
Antiques dealer Helen Winter restored a 327‑year‑old Farmington River gristmill and installed a private hydro plant powering about 90 percent of the building, with a 20 kilowatt peak output. Northern Water Power designed the system, which leverages a century‑old turbine and a modern control setup to run the mill’s 22 stories, heating, lighting, and a restaurant tenant. The project aims for a 6‑year return on investment.

Eating Out Reshapes U S Supermarket Role and Style
The rise of dining out as a dominant meal source forces supermarkets to adapt. With Americans spending one third of food dollars away from home, chains expand into services and takeouts while industry leaders forecast continued growth in restaurants and decline in grocery sales. Demographic shifts, more working women, and singles drive this trend, fueling new restaurant openings and rapid franchise expansion.
