Vermont Highway Snow Removal Costs Hold Steady
MONTPELIER, UPS. Despite an early winter and heavy snows in 1969, Highway Department costs for snow removal salt and sand stay near 1968 levels. Commissioner John T. Gray said 1969 expenses will run about 25,000 dollars more than last year’s 3 million spent. By December end winter maintenance costs were about 26 percent ahead of last year. Gray attributed the rise to limited March snows and effective district office management. The total cost will be roughly a third of the department’s 9.4 million dollar maintenance budget, with the summer retreatment program proceeding as planned.
