A Bennington boy age 14 suffered a broken left leg Friday after colliding with a northbound Jeep on North Street. Police say Michael Ketcham of North Street was injured in the incident, involving Kerry Bergquist, 17, of Bennington. The Jeep sustained no damage. Ketcham was taken to Putnam Memorial Hospital by the rescue squad, a cast applied and he was released.
Juries were drawn for multiple Bennington District Court trials in May. John Carmody Jr. faces a May 3 jury trial for operating a snowmobile without registration in Manchester. Simon Holmberg, 24, has a May 4 jury trial for forging Gordon McClure’s signature in Manchester. John Stryker, 24, of Bennington, goes May 8 on careless and negligent driving and DWI from Jan. 24 on Route 67. Leslie Morse, 19, Arlington, faces May 15 for disorderly conduct from Dec. 31 in East Arlington. Floyd Pasyardi, 38, Pittsfield, Mass., has May 16 for transporting game without a license from Nov. 19. John Kinney, 23, Bennington, changed to no contest for simple assault on Jan. 9 in Bennington. fined $75 after earlier not guilty plea.
Leod J Ryan longtime Bennington resident died Friday in Tampa Florida while on vacation. A current Delmar New York resident he worked in the insurance business in the Capitol district after leaving Bennington. Funeral arrangements were incomplete according to available information.
Dr Richard A Goldsby, chemistry professor at the University of Maryland, will lecture on Race and Races at Bennington College Barn Room 1 on Monday at 8 pm. The talk, drawing on his book, argues that biological racial differences exist and can be documented through genetics and biology, while condemning racism and urging understanding of differences as a basis for harmony.
The Community ACIS a Vermont based arts group votes to hire a salaried executive director with applications due May 7 to Box 476 North Bennington VT 05257. The association promotes arts support by producing information for aid and developing programs through volunteer artists and participants.
Several accidents occurred Thursday and Friday in Bennington with no injuries. A 1964 Ford owned by Joseph P Webber Jr. was a total loss after hitting a guard pole on Main Street early Friday. A 1967 Ford and a 1966 Chrysler collided on Route 674 on Thursday night, both sustaining moderate damage. A 1970 Chevrolet wagon driven by Gary Kinney sustained moderate damage after being forced off the Gore Road by unknown traffic. A Mack dump truck struck a parking meter on South Street. the truck driver Thomas McDonald swerved to avoid a stopped car. The meter incurred no damage.
