Late spring's toll on Sunderland sugaring season
Sunderland sugar makers report a weak maple sap run due to cold spring weather. Clyde Dunlap produced 484 gallons, down from 627 last year, and Earle Hill yielded 180 gallons after not sugaring previously. Syrup quality remained high, mostly Fancy and Grade A, with limited Grade B. Sap flow was light with low sugar content, winds and cool days further hindering collection. Some Barre producers earned only 20 percent of usual output, suggesting rising future prices above 8 dollars per gallon.
