New England Electric Projects 8 Percent Power Demand Rise
New England Electric System Chairman William Webster told shareholders that electric load growth is rising to 8 percent annually from 6 percent. First quarter earnings fell slightly to 61 cents per share from 63 cents in 1968, though weather and storms limited gains. President Robert Krause forecast 1969 as a strong year with 6.9 percent load growth in the first quarter, aided by Brayton Point’s new 650,000 kilowatt unit and fuel shifts from coal to oil. 1968 earnings were 1.94 dollars per share, with kilowatt hour sales up 9.3 percent. Projections include 79 million dollars in 1969 construction spending, down from 90 million in 1968.
