Rain Outlook Dims Hopes To End Fires
The weather bureau offered no prospect of general rain for New England in the next 48 hours as brush fires burn through wooded areas. Light showers and snow flurries were possible only in parts of Maine, with no useful precipitation expected across six states. Mount Tom saw severe burning, with a seven mile stretch of woods along the Boston and Maine line in Greenfield. Easthampton reported embers from a house fire fanning brush by Nashawannuck Pond. In Exeter Rhode Island a brush fire prompted 100 residents to evacuate. firefighters kept flames from homes. Rhode Island State Police removed an elderly man who refused to leave. A two seater plane owned by Harry Dill of Cumberland was destroyed as wind shifts drove a fire toward Woonsocket airport, with 27 other planes moved to safety. Dill estimated losses at 2000 dollars.

Judge Advises Village to Drop Zoning Action
Judge F Ray Keyser advised Bennington village trustees to discontinue the injunction against William E Morse for alleged zoning violations. He met with Village President James B Gibney and Trustee Leo Nash and said the injunction should end without prejudice. Trustees are to consider the recommendation at their Tuesday meeting. a discontinue action would leave the ordinance on record for potential future challenge.
