Skid Road Panhandlers Face Endangered Status in Seattle
In Seattle's Skid Road the longtime panhandlers face a shrinking habitat as Pioneer Square Historic District redevelopment continues. The area, once a bawdy core of the city, now sees fewer open rooms and rising efforts by urban conservation officials to preserve the historic landscape while maintaining aid for residents living on about 150 dollars a month.

Crocodile Adds to Endangered List New Dangers
The Interior Department's Fish and Wildlife Service proposed 10 new species for protection, including the American crocodile, Mexican wolf, Credos Island mule deer, gray bat, peninsular pronghorn antelope, bayou darter, Scioto madtom, and three Hawaiian birds, joining 190 already listed. The service invited public comment while noting few individuals remain in several cases. The Mexican wolf, once common in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, has not been seen there since 1960, with under 200 left in Mexico. The American crocodile in southern Florida has few breeding females, and gray bats mostly reside in five caves along the East Coast.
