Ping Pong Marathon Breaks Ground in Vermont Barn

Two Burr and Burton students Merrick Counsell and Kurt Plank attempted a world record for continuous table tennis, starting April 21 in a barn game room. They prepared with a rigged setup, timing log, and sponsor bets while gathering energy from soda and Gatorade as supporters offered encouragement.

Hotel plans stall as Peru ZBA hears Dostal proposal

Peru zoning officials have not ruled on Erwin J. Dostal of Londonderry’s plan to build a 50 unit hotel beside the Bromley Base Lodge. A May 6 hearing at 7:30 p.m. will allow Dostal to present further evidence after a first April 15 hearing. The project, on six acres to be bought from the ski area, fails by five feet in height and proximity to Route 30 for an outright permit. Bromley Corp. seeks a variance under hardship criteria, which the ZBA found not met. An additional Act 250 hearing is set for May 6 at 9:30 a.m. at the Bromley Base Lodge. Dostal aims to start soon, hoping to finish by December.
