Abbott Cummings of the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities will launch a major Northeast newspaper campaign to save the Pavilion Hotel in Montpelier. Cummings and trustee Frederick Stahl toured the four story 92 year old site, calling it a fine example of renaissance revival design and urging preservation of historic buildings. They plan to contact Ada Louise Huxtable and possibly a Boston paper for support as demolition legislation for the hotel is slated for the May 6 special session amid the Capital Complex expansion controversy.

Landslides Block Roads Across Vermont After Rain
Heavy rainfall closed several routes in Vermont with slides blocking Vermont 142 near the border and traffic on Vermont 100 two miles north of Granville returning to normal. Water covered multiple sections, Vermont 118 east of East Berkshire and Vermont 15 near Essex were closed. Weather stations logged 1.51 to 2.65 inches in 24 hours, ending a 15 day drought and dropping statewide fire danger to zero.
