Gitt remembered for liberty themed editorials and local grit
The piece profiles Jess Gitt, editor of the Gazette and Daily, whose essays on American liberty and history education drew praise and controversy. It notes Detroit's Big Three pulling ads after pollution editorials, racist backlash in York County, and the Klan firebombing attempt amid his national recognition. Gitt sold the paper in 1970 and died shortly before learning he was named on Nixon's Enemies List.
