Inflation reshapes sports contracts across major leagues
In a high inflation era sports owners face rising costs and stagnant TV revenue. Dan Rooney notes salaries jumped 700 percent from 1945 to 1960 and again since 1966 while income barely kept pace. Cowboys and baseball officials warn ticket prices must rise to sustain profits as TV sponsors shrink and new revenue lags. Football, baseball, basketball and hockey negotiate multi year TV deals with CBS NBC and ABC, with closing circuits unlikely for major events.
