Nixon Wins Major Duel With Democratic Congress
Nixon defeats Democratic House on brief extension of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. The bill, sent to the Senate, preserves most Johnson-era aid while adding combat pay for teachers in violent schools and a block grant-like approach. It also extends aid to federally impacted areas and includes children from federally supported housing programs in the program. Separate war updates report heavy B 52 strikes in War Zone C over Vietnam with multiple divisions reportedly engaged and ground fighting near the DMZ, including Marines inflicting casualties and discovering guerrilla remains and damaged Communist armor.
