Guilford C Cheney 19 of 304 North Street dies of chest injuries after a four car crash on Vermont Route 9 near Fairdale Farms. A 7:30 p.m. collision followed a separate two car crash 100 yards east. Cheney’s passenger Thomas Woodward 17 treated for shock. Other drivers from Massachusetts, New York and Vermont unharmed. American jets struck Hoa Lac and Kep MIG interceptor bases near Hanoi in daylight raids described as the heaviest blow to North Vietnam's air arm.
