Private Plane Hijacked to Cuba From North Carolina
A small private single engine Cessna 172 was hijacked by Ira Meeks and Diane McKinney from Gastonia North Carolina. After three refuel stops along the South Atlantic Coast the plane landed at Jose Marti Airport in Havana at 5 40 a m EST. The hijackers demanded fuel cigarettes and coffee and threatened to destroy the plane if police were not kept away. The FBI described Meeks as recently released from a northern prison. The star of the incident was the pilot Boyce Stradley aged 56 who was compelled at gunpoint to fly to Cuba. The aircraft was owned by Nick Caldwell Aviation and was hijacked Wednesday.
