Vermont Aims for Uniform Property Assessments in State
The Vermont Senate Appropriations Committee endorsed a bill to create a uniform property assessment division replacing the tax division. It would expand educational aid to towns and grant tax breaks to farmers and timberland owners, with House support likely if Senate amendments pass. A separate Vermont Legal Aid suit seeks court consent before property attachments, targeting a Montpelier case and asking Rutland federal court to hold involved parties in contempt.
