Three Walls of Glass Shaftsbury Restaurant to Offer Spectacular View
Mr and Mrs Samuel Batonick owners of the Hillbrook Motel Shafts bury plan a new restaurant across from the motel on U S 7 to provide views of Glastonbury Mountain and Mount Anthony along with meals. Construction began two weeks ago with glass walls on three sides and terraces for outdoor dining to create a floating roof effect. The Batonicks envision the site becoming a recreation center for Sunday outings with a pool woods trails and room for a small artificial lake for anglers after meals. The design and steel work are by Pittsfield firms and the builders include Burgess Brothers Carpentry Bennett and Ryan Construction Monument Roofing and H Greenberg and Son with materials from C L White Paint Glass and Wallpaper. The Batonicks began expansion of their motel in 1953 adding units in 1957 and 1960.
