Artist recalls FDR deathbed moments at Little White House
Elizabeth Shoumatoff, who painted Roosevelt twice, describes the final hours in Warm Springs during the 1945 death from a massive cerebral hemorrhage. She recounts his last words about 15 minutes remaining to work, his sudden collapse, and the hurried departure of the three women present. Roosevelt appeared in good color earlier, and the scene includes Lucy Mercer Rutherford and Margaret Suckley.
