Thousands Cheer LBJ In Mexican Capital

President Johnson extended his Mexico City goodwill visit by two hours, meeting crowds and shaking hands with more than two million people. Henry Ford Defends Auto Safety Record at Ford Plant

Henry Ford II, Ford Motor Co. chairman, countered auto safety critics at a new stamping plant dedication in Woodhaven, urging Congress to avoid “irrational” laws. Nixon Degree Protested at Rochester University

Rochester University faced strong student and faculty protests over awarding an honorary degree to former Vice President Richard Nixon as commencement speaker June 5. The liberal arts college faculty passed a resolution opposing the degree, citing Nixon’s stance on academic freedom and his Viet Nam teach-in remark. About 215 of 512 seniors signed a petition, and a student referendum is planned.

Desegregation Deadline Extended To May For Schools

The U S Office of Education extended the assurance deadline for desegregation to May 6 due to delays in guidelines. Harold Howe II said funds may be deferred for districts failing to file. Welfare Secretary Gardner warned federal funds could be cut for noncompliance.

Four Seriously Injured In Crash on East Road

A husband and wife with their two young daughters were badly hurt Friday afternoon when their southbound car left the East Road near the Shaftsbury Bennington line and rolled end over end into a maple tree. The parents suffered facial head and possible internal injuries and severe burns. the two children were listed as fair. Five youths in a Silk Road crash were treated at Putnam Memorial Hospital.
