Plane crashes in Montpelier after crosswind takeoff
A Northeast Airlines DC3 carrying 19 aboard veered off a Barre Montpelier Airport runway during takeoff and crashed into a hangar and two cars. No injuries were reported as all occupants were evacuated. Flight 373 originated in Burlington and was bound for Lebanon New Hampshire and Boston.

7 200 U S Troops To Leave Germany
The Defense Department announced the withdrawal of 7500 frontline combat troops from Germany beginning next month. About 5100 will exit as part of excess to NATO commitments, while 2400 were deployed last January and February during Exercise Long Thrust, leaving 233500 U S troops in the country. The move follows Western allies’ support and German acquiescence, with minimal impact on defenses and a slight improvement to the U S balance of payments by stopping about 10 million dollars in gold losses annually.
