Harness tale denied by Rooney at Green Mountain track
POWNAL Patrick Rooney one of the Green Mountain Racetrack owners says a Rutland Herald report about summer harness racing is false. He confirms 65 days of harness racing next winter if a bill raises takeout on harness wagering from 18 to 19 percent and Sundays from 19 to 20 percent, with 1 percent extra going to the track. The agreement would also raise exotic wagering take-out to 25 percent with extra revenue to the track. Rooney notes last year’s losses around 450,000 and says the higher takeout could cut that by about half. The deal includes greyhound racing through October and details on a $1 million cash-liquid asset fund promised to the Racing Commission.
