Do-little session ends after feuding in Vermont

The 1974 Vermont General Assembly adjourned at 1:55 a.m. after four extra days of wrangling over bills including a 208 million omnibus request. Key clash involved Rep. Lew Kedroff and Sen. Russell Niquette over public access to documents, ending with Burgess’s bill succeeding. The session approved pay hikes for state workers and officials, a 16.3 million capital construction plan, new welfare and labor measures, and reapportionment of the House. Nixon to pay 432787 in taxes due

President Nixon agreed to pay 432787.13 in taxes after a report by the Joint Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation found back taxes totaling about 476431 for 1969 through 1972 plus interest. The White House said errors were by his preparers and denied fraud.

Doubling shopping center approved by town planners

The Bennington Planning Commission approved a 600000 expansion of Monument Plaza by Barbara Jean Realty Co of Cambridge Massachusetts contingent on landscaping traffic control and drainage. A new Hicks Avenue entrance exit near DeMarcos Sporting Goods awaits private land state highway approval and selectmen consent. The plan features a 57000 square foot Grant City addition and two expansions to First National supermarket plus 120 more parking spaces total 900 with extensive landscaping.
