Jets Bomb North Vietnam Amid Record Air Raids

U S jet bombers carried out 147 missions in North Vietnam the year’s largest air raid as the 500th American aircraft was reported shot down. Navy ships joined in shelling coastal defenses while B52s struck near Saigon and along the Cambodian border amid Operation Junction City activity. Ground fighting remained light in South Vietnam.

Cuban envoy burned by mailed book blast at UN mission

Charge dAffaires Nicholas Rodriguez Astiazarian of Cuba opened a mailed book note reading turn to page 76. The book exploded, burning him on face arms and chest.
