A letter urged councils to oppose a bill with potential future repercussions. Councils debated forming a protest, appointing a committee, and distributing leaflets, while Benalla Shire chose not to act. Speakers warned the bill could lead to totalitarian tendencies.
An area of land is allocated in the Friendly Society Reserve for the Legion to beautify. They will build club rooms and tennis courts and maintain the area. The Legion seeks public support to aid the project which will enhance the reserve and benefit the town. Trustees and the Borough engineer Mr L D Fawckner praise forethought and invite all members to a meeting on Friday September 21 to discuss monetary material or physical help.

He notes improvements including the Johnston barrier, achieved through economy and voluntary efforts by members and volunteers. He thanks donors H Ellis F Phillips and Mackerel, and commends secretary Barclay Boyd for his efforts despite illness. The club looks to the next season with confidence.
Castemaine Ltd approves a major 30 month purchase of centrifugal pumps for its fire brigade. The order funds thirty new pumps to join an expanded fleet of fire engines for country towns. The rest will replace older appliances retired due to obsolescence though still operable.
