Federal and state ministers back Benalla air service after a strong deputation led by Mayor PF Harrison. Speakers cited the aerodrome, rail limits, and regional needs, with plans to file through MP Bowtofk to the Federal Minister for Air for final approval.
Officials prepare a comprehensive programme for Lurgs annual fixture headlined by O Keefe brothers trick riding from Wangaratta. Main pedestrian event offers Ensign sash and £5 prize. Read and Brack’s bus departs Bridge Street at 1 p.m. transport 4 shillings, free bus later from Benalla for the dance. Gardeners urged to take advantage of good weather.
The R S L smoke social is set for Friday night with guest speaker Mr KR A Eva vice president of the Central Executive. He will be joined by Mr T Mornane recently returned from Japan where he served as chief prosecutor at the Japanese war crime trials. Diggers are asked to attend without special effort.
At the range on Saturday the club presented season trophies. Lance Ralph won the J. R. Meikle junior handicap aggregate and the R. C. Hooper open handicap trophy. Neil Ellis took the E. A. Cooper junior scratch aggregate while W. E. Splinks earned the Rand agency prize. The second match of the 1950 season is scheduled for next Saturday.
The death occurred on Monday 27th near Wie Lawn for 46 year old Thomas Graham. Funeral cortege left Violet Town cemetery after a 4.30 p.m. service at the Presbyterian Church on Tuesday. Violet Town Football Club plans to join the Benalla Tungamah League with seven loans to be completed. Play begins on May 7. Shrubs ornamental trees and citrus trees advertised at Evans' Grain store.
Arrangements are finalized for a district Scout camp over Easter at Harrys Creek near Violet Town. Troops from Benalla Euroa Violet Town and Mansfield will compete for the Robinson Shield under District Scoutmaster Norm Varner. Visitors may attend Sunday April 9 from 1 30 to 5 p.m. to view the scouting work.
The Mooroopna races scheduled for Saturday are abandoned because the rock barrier is under water, forcing cancellation of the event.

Benalla athletes named for the Victorian country championships in Melbourne on April 1. Senior events include 100 and 220 yards, 480 yards, 1 mile, and various field events with L O'Donnell J Andrews Fiske Bamfield Curie Prior Firth among the contenders. Junior team covers 0 and 220 yards plus jumping and throwing events with several named participants. The club plans a Friday 6 pm bus from Ellery's corner and invites supporters to join.
An application by Mr. E. Hoy to operate a Wangaratta to Shepparton bus service was postponed from Wednesday in Shepparton due to the board's focus on Melbourne transport industrial problems.
Dr J Falochino moved to rescind the decision denying a half holiday for Benalla Race Club Cup day on May 24 due to a mayoral misdirection about Easter Saturday. The debate highlighted past practice and potential council support, with future discussion expected at the next meeting.
