Chamber of Commerce members on Tuesday night urged rail officials to include Benalla in the Reso train tour. They noted the train, used before the war to showcase primary and secondary industries, would spend a week touring Wangaratta Rutherglen and other centres.
A father in a yard races against time to save John after a sweater snag on a fence left him suspended. The boy’s airway blocked and adults performed forty minutes of resuscitation before life signs returned. John survived and has minor after effects.

A car driven by John Bromley and a truck owned by G Hair collided on Bridge Street near the police station. The truck, driven by Clyde J Buckland, overturned twice but both drivers escaped with only slight shocks and no serious injuries, with extensive vehicle damage reported.
A petrol tanker driven by Charles Backlund of Benalla and owned by Wilsons Transport Pty Ltd burned on the Hume Highway two miles from Kilmore last night. The 2 500 gallons of petrol ignited surrounding grass and roadside areas, threatening nearby properties. Backlund escaped injury as authorities blocked the area and investigated the fire, with losses estimated between £4 000 and £8 000.
A motion reducing chamber quorum from 20 to 12 was carried on Tuesday night. Frank Terrett noted difficulty in obtaining 20. Peter Grubb moved the item, seconded by H. Fogg, and the measure passed. Future meeting dates were discussed and executive meetings set for am and general sessions.
Patrick Galvin of Metrowest Benalla was fined five pounds and sentenced to 4 percent hours imprisonment after pleading guilty to two counts of assaulting police. The June 21 incident involved disturbances at Cone stables and later assault on officers as they removed him from his home. He had five prior drunken or disorderly convictions and one for indecent language. He was given one month to pay the fine.
