Benalla's First Two Soldiers For Korea

The first two Benalla men to enlist for Korea are Dick Spencer and Val Cheater. Spencer, Swanpool Football Club playing coach, was a popular leader in the Benalla District League and played his last game in the semi final before enlisting. He wished Tatong players good luck, a gesture praised by townspeople. Cheater is the son of the late “Digger” Chester, Alan Chester, who has been totally blind since WWI.

Farewell Night for Molly O'Dea and Harry Pamphilon at Molyullah

A large send off is planned at Molyullah Hall on Monday night for Miss Molly O'Dea and Mr Harry Pamphilon who depart the district after many years. O'Dea contributed to nursing and aiding residents during sickness and Pamphilon actively supported local groups especially in sports during his five years in the area.

Generous Donation Supports Hospital Winter Appeal

The scholars of Bada glume State School led by head Wwacher Mr witha Cos Nave Gwnce Muse organized a year round effort to collect scrap wool skins and more for the Benalla Memorial Hospital. They have averaged over £30 a year and this week donated £15 to the Hospital Winter Appeal, acknowledged by the Ling uital committee.

All Blacks Reunion Match At Benalla Showgrounds

The committee organizing a reunion match for the prewar Benalla All Blacks at the Showgrounds on Saturday plans to donate all mite proceeds to the Hospital Water Appeal. The enthusiasm shown suggests a substantial sum will be handed to Benalla Memorial Hospital.

T B Skin Test Carried Out On 1500 Children

The health inspector Mr. Watson reported to the Borough Council that about 1500 school children were skin tested in July for tuberculosis with between 3 and 32 percent testing positive. A mobile X ray unit will follow up with personal interviews of contacts. about 207 children were not tested due to parental consent issues. The mayor Dr. Fr Harri vont commented on the campaign and parental cooperation.

Denny Street Subdivision Plans Approved by Borough Council

At the Monday council meeting engineer Mr Pawekmer presented full plans and work schedules for Denny Street subdivision and the right of way to Carrier and Bridge streets. The Denny Street portion costs £1276, Carrier Street right of way £603, Bridge Street £375. Plans were approved and negotiations will start with property owners.
