The Blackduck Village Council last meeting raised beer to 50 cents a bottle and drinks to 55 cents each at the Blackduck Municipal Liquor Store. The increases mark inflation, as former prices were 45 and 50 cents respectively.
The Grygla Eagle, a new weekly publication in Richards chain, launches alongside the Oklee Herald and the Gonvick Leader Record. Friday marks its first issue as one of the area’s few recent newspaper launches.
Cass Lake introduces a community housing project inviting low income families to inquire about residence. Seven or eight of the planned 15 three and four bedroom homes will be ready by November 1, announced Lyle Chisholm, chairman of the Cass Lake Housing and Redevelopment Authority. John R. Hood, a 1942 Bagley High School graduate and brother of Bagley High School teacher Don Hood, is named director of the Arts Academy of Interlochen Michigan. Hood served in the Marine Corps for three years and earned a 1950 degree from Central Michigan University. He taught at Ann Arbor and with the Michigan Department of Conservation and has taught ecology at the Academy since 1963.
Area cattlemen plan an 8 p.m. Tuesday meeting at the American Legion Hall in Bagley to discuss preventing cattle losses. Clearwater County Sheriff Kenneth Felt and conservation officer Jack Backer will discuss theft prevention measures.
