Highway 2 claims second pedestrian victim in week

A 20 year old Bemidji woman was killed when she lay in the path of a grain truck on Highway 2 seven miles east of Bemidji. Witnesses said she laid down in the road forcing a car to swerve. The truck fled the scene. Funeral services for the victim are set. A separate fatal head on collision south of Lake City killed four residents and left another injured. The crash involved Emma Peterson and four others, with one more passenger hospitalized. Also reported was the death of Mark R. Popovich after a separate crash near Willow River.

Eight Children Die in Jerry City Trailer Fire

Eight siblings under ten perished in a trailer blaze that broke out around 5 45 am while their parents worked at Bowling Green State University. Coroner Dr Roger Pearce said asphyxiation likely caused the deaths.
