Wreckage of a Texas International Convair turboprop missing since last Thursday was located on a southwest Arkansas mountainside nearly 100 miles off course. Eight passengers and three crew members were aboard. no survivors. Flight originated from Dorado, Arkansas, bound for Texarkana.
A year old Tenstrike man, George Hofer, died early Saturday from chest wounds after his shotgun apparently discharged as he crossed a fence while hunting on Sept. 20 near his home. Deputies ruled it a one party hunting accident. search efforts hampered by darkness and rugged terrain near North Fork Mountain where a separate plane crash occurred.
The Bemidji City Council meets tonight with a light agenda. A public hearing on curb and street work on 21st Street is first, followed by a Plywood Minnesota expansion request and a water and sewer project on Washington Avenue. Marion Gorham known as Bud Gorham, longtime sports director for KCMT TV in Alexandria and KNMT TV in Walker, died Sunday at about 4 am from an apparent heart attack. He hosted Outdoors with Bud and was an avid outdoorsman. Survived by wife Lorraine and four children, he was a South Dakota native educated at Huron College and the University of North Dakota.
Three people died early Saturday when a car collided nearly head-on with a grain truck on Highway 2 about two miles west of Ball Club. Victims were Lyman Sherman 17 Deer River his 12 year old son Michael and Leona Mac toy 27 of Inger. The Sherman car struck the rear of an oncoming grain truck that had swerved to miss something in the road. The truck driver was uninjured and unnamed.
Beltrami County Commissioners plan Tuesday discussions on annual Welfare Department and Nursing Service budgets, ongoing since last month. The meeting may include hiring a Land Commission retiree replacement via Iron Range RI C. Architect John Ivey Thomas to discuss the Courthouse Judicial Courts Annex project. An agenda item also covers weed supervisor re-appointment, equipment purchases, a subdivision ordinance amendment, a four acre land lease north of Bemidji for the sheriff's radio tower, and a whimsical note about candy.
