Bemidji School Board adopts fuel crisis conservation plan

In a November 21 1973 Bemidji District No 31 meeting the board approved a fuel conservation and building protection policy for immediate use. It sets classroom 68 degree average, hallways 50, gymnasiums and auditorium 50, encourages tunnel use, keeps windows closed, assigns extra curriculars to a few schools, limits buses to 50 mph, closes inner doors, and switches off unnecessary lights with provisions for future curtailments and emergency protection if the crisis worsens.

Beltrami County Court Hears Several Motions and Bonds

Michael N. Olson waived preliminary hearing and was bound over to District Court on illegal entry and theft charges. Gary Barrer forfeited a $25 bond on disobeying a stop sign. Karsten Werke forfeited a $50 bond on transporting a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle. Art Johnson charged with setting a white fish net in water deeper than six feet. Robert Holum pleaded guilty to taking deer in closed season and was fined $300 or 90 days in jail. Charles Harrell bound over to District Court on ten counts of felonious assault after a Tuesday preliminary hearing.

Weather State Forecast With Snow and Rain in Northwest

Travelers advisory for the northwest with heavy snow warning. Rain and showers in the northwest and southeast, ending later. Snow and freezing rain possible in extreme northwest, up to four inches by evening. Partly cloudy south, clearing north tonight. Thursday to be fair to partly cloudy with warmer northwest and colder southwest. Highs in the 20s to 50s. lows 12 to 25. Funeral services for Stanley Bly in Everett Washington

Stanley Bly a Bemidji native died unexpectedly in Everett Washington. He was a World War II veteran painter and is survived by his wife Rose three sons Stanley Jr Steven and Michael all of Everett five brothers Roy Olaf Lawrence Earl and Clarence and two sisters Myrtle Johnson and Ruby Ely. Olaf Bly of Bemidji plans to attend the Everett service.

Cars Slide to Collisions on Slippery Streets

Snow and ice made two accidents Tuesday afternoon serious. Jean Wizner's car struck Elias Stambaugh's car at Irvine Avenue north near Hillcrest Manor. damages about 1500 and 1200 dollars. Julius Drews lost control near 15th Street and Bixby Avenue, hitting Ole Moe's parked car. damages about 150 and 300 dollars.

County timber offered to area residents

Beltrami County residents may obtain fuel wood from county timber land with permits issued by the Land Commission. In six months 29 permits were issued at the courthouse basement office. Wood types include birch maple oak with tamarack smaller, prices 50 cents per cord for down timber and tops, $1 per cord for standing green timber.

Slippery travel reported in extreme western Minnesota as up to four inches of snow forecast for extreme northwestern areas. Most of the state to see clearing tonight and on Thanksgiving day with temperatures in the 20s to 50s and a mix of rain and snow in western regions.

Otter Tail Power Co officials in Fergus Falls Minnesota report ample electric energy for winter but announce conservation measures. President Al Hartl says office thermostats will be set to 68 degrees and drivers told to cut speeds. Company will dim billboards and reduce Christmas lighting. Advertising will include energy conservation tips for customers.
