District 31 board acts on kindergarten transport and more

District No. 31 voted to sign temporary contracts with parents for kindergarten transportation with costs potentially reaching 15000 plus five vans. The board discussed village recreation cooperation, bids for gas boilers at the high school, dental lab equipment, and policy against loitering. Duluth lawmakers push tax incentives to save U S Steel plant

Northwestern Bell Rates Seen Overstated Say Professor

University of Maryland instructor Charles Olson testified before the Minnesota PSC that Northwestern Bell’s proposed rate increase is overstated. He suggested a fair Minnesota return on investments at 7.5 to 7.9 percent, while company spokesmen cited about 8.4 percent needed to satisfy investors. Northwestern Bell reported a 6.3 percent return from 1959 to 1970.

Recycling begins in Bemidji center opens with volunteer help

The Bemidji recycling center started Tuesday 4 to 6 p.m. with cans bottles and paper. It will run 4 to 6 Tuesdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays until more equipment arrives. Open house tentatively set for Dec 4.

Translator TV group to meet over Bemidji cable plans

The Headwaters Translator Television Corporation schedules a 7:30 p.m. meeting at Otter Tail Power Co. on Fourth Street and America Avenue to discuss funding for the three tower system delivering Channels 3 6 from Duluth and 11 from Fargo.
