Draft Director Curtis W Tarr ordered boards to let men deferred from selective service drop deferments by December 31. Those with draft numbers 126 or higher could face brief draft exposure and move to a lower category on January 1 if not drafted. The rule covers those born in 1951 or earlier, not those turning 19 this year with numbers from last July. Men with numbers 125 or lower who are not drafted by January 1 would have induction liability extended to March 1.
