County boosts Beltrami jobs under 1971 Emergency Act

A total of 58 new jobs were created in Beltrami County under the Emergency Employment Act of 1971 with 5 positions in Bemidji City starting this week. The federal government covers 90 percent of salaries. the rest is local. New city posts include clerk typist, assistant assessor, recreation director, meter repair, and a sewage plant technician.

Minnesota to switch to ad valorem vehicle tax in 1973

Minnesota’s 1972 car license tabs go on sale November 15 marking the final use of the weight and age system. Beginning 1973 owners will pay vehicle tax based on value under an ad valorem system, similar to property tax, with new plates issued every four years.
