The Minnesota DNR explains that senior citizens and children 15 and under may fish without a license, while a $1 stamp applies to nonreservation residents for Leech Lake waters. A single stamp covers husband and wife on a combined license, and proceeds go to the Leech Lake Band per a court settlement. Special signs mark the reservation area.
President Nixon signed a bill prohibiting cities from levying taxes on airline passengers at their airports. The measure, backed by airlines, raises federal airport funding by shifting the federal local matching from 50 50 to 25 25 for all but large hubs and increases federal shares for security and certification costs to 82 percent. It also raises the minimum annual airport development fund to 310 million dollars.
The Bemidji school board agreed to thoroughly study policy on approving human relations courses for graduate credit and salary advancement for teachers. The issue arises from state certification rules requiring 60 clock hours in human relations, affecting about 125 teachers. The board also hired four new teachers for 1973 74 and approved an administrative intern post at the junior high.
Police sources say John Thompson 55 a U.S. citizen and Firestone Argentina executive was kidnapped as he left the plant about 15 miles south of Buenos Aires. Company officials offered no comment. Thompson’s hometown was not disclosed.
