Summer Red Cross swimming lessons are set at the Junior High Pool with three sessions for up to 600 students. Registration Saturday June 17 9 am to noon and Sunday June 18 2 to 4 pm. Sessions run 10 class days over two weeks per session.
U.S. District Judge Miles Lord acquitted 22 year old Steven Rubid of two draft violation charges after the government rested without calling witnesses. Rubid, who sought conscientious objector status under the Indian Midewin faith, testified his religion guides his life on the Sandy Lake Reservation.

Beltrami County officials say a paid ad from the Beltrami County Taxpayers Association caused confusion about hearings. The ad urged attendance for a June 14 Beltrami County Equalization meeting, while the actual county board meeting is July 1 at 10 a.m. in the county board room.
