Bemidji Public Library will launch a Vacation Reading Club for children in grades 2 through 6 starting Monday June 14. Participants become Modern American Explorers, read books about states, earn ribbons and stickers, and ten books earned a library party. Registration and book selection happen in the first two weeks.
Mrs F Bridgman and Mrs Mel Pollish led North South in the Duplicate Bridge. Mrs Ben Johnson and Mrs W J Marose led East West. Ron Studer and Kenneth Lundberg were second North South, with Mrs R Aversgaard and Mrs E Ashley third. Walter Ellis 69 of Cass Lake died at Ah Gwah Ching hospital. Funeral at St. Charles on Monday. Rosary Sunday at Thomas Funeral Home. Born Menahga Oct 22 1901 he was a minnow dealer. Survived by wife Meryl daughter Mary Lou Ottoborgo two sons Ronnie Lyle nine grandchildren three sisters two brothers. Also notes on Mrs Anna Burman funeral, Paul Hannem housewarming, Italy Yugoslavia trip, Ford Foundation fellowships and Tuesday bridge session at Elks Club.
Division winner Mrs. Walter Mathews took first in the Odds and Evens Ladies Division with Mrs. William Naylor second. In the Odds tourney Mrs. Leonard Hein won, with Mrs. Frank Rideout and Mrs. Carl Matala tied for second. Whiffs winner was Mrs. Sherman Kerr in an Odds tournament with ten participants.
Charlene Ann Steffen of Solwag earned a bachelor of science in education at Moorhead State College during the spring commencement on Thursday June 10. The class totaled 817 degree recipients. Other local graduates include Loretta Mavis Johnson of Clearbrook and Sylvia Jean Rue of Fosston with BS in education and Erwin Roger Rue of Fosston with a BA. Families of Bemidji and Bagley area residents were also mentioned among visitors and faculty.
Bemidji Hospital Auxiliary members heard Mrs. Agnes Markus read a piece urging listening to others’ feelings and thoughts as the first duty of love. The group noted a June 16 workshop at Fosston, with ten volunteers to attend, and announced a 1 30 pm business meeting change at future gatherings.
Mrs Grays delivered devotions citing Joshua 1 and the call for successors to great leaders. Two solos by Mrs Olson and accompaniment by Mrs Hjelm followed. Union Signal readings discussed as Youth Temperance camp slated for Lake Koronis June 14 20 with two local girls named. district convention planned for Warren June 16 with carload attendance.
The Grant Valley Homemakers Club will gather Tuesday at 1 30 p m with Mrs Paul Lundtke presiding. Members are invited to attend and share plans for upcoming community projects and activities.
