Washington reports on government efforts to end midair collisions being stalled by a dispute between two safety agencies over an old Lindbergh era rule. The piece notes ongoing safety debates amid broader Vietnam era tensions and political maneuvering in the capital.
Bemidji State College expects $770,000 for buildings and grounds if the Minnesota Legislature’s tax bill is enacted and the governor signs it. A Hughes Air West DC9 carrying 43 passengers and five crew collided with a Marine F4 Phantom east of Duarte in Angeles National Forest. The Soviet Soyuz 11 docked with the Salute orbital space laboratory after a 25 hour chase, forming a 60 foot long 25 ton pair. Cosmonauts Viktor Patsayev Vladimir Volkov and Georgy Dobrovolsky joined in the two stage docking, reporting they feel well and will resume the flight program.
