Beltrami County Court actions and local theft case notes
In Beltrami County Court on Thursday June 5 Lon Ristau of Bemidji pleaded not guilty to theft with a jury trial set for August. Eli Niemi of Osage fined $200 and 60 days jail for DWI with suspended sentence on conditions. Charles Worms of Bemidji failed to appear on speeding. Donna Beaulieu faces a worthless check charge with attorney appointed and case continued to June 10. Sheriff’s reports noted a Deer Lake Store car entry with rods and reels stolen and port hole vandalism at Port Hope Community Hall. Area births include a son to Mr and Mrs Winfred Arthur Stiner Jr and Peter James born May 31 at Clearwater County Memorial Hospital. Admitted names and hospital discharges listed with privacy notice.

Church to sponsor refugee family in Bemidji
Calvary Lutheran Church council voted unanimously to sponsor at least one Vietnamese refugee family to Bemidji. Members will help with housing and employment and a rent free house has been offered. Other area churches in Bagley Gonwick Bethel and First Lutheran Bemidji consider sponsoring. Families expected within two months.

Bemidji Students Sweep Medals at State Special Olympics
In Mankato June 4 5 Bemidji area students earned three golds two silvers and a bronze at the State Special Olympics. Larry Lyght won gold in softball throw and silver in shot put. Craig Kondos won gold in standing long jump. Craig Hartman won gold in running long jump and silver in 220 yard dash. Pamela Bell won bronze in 50 yard dash. Two Bemidji State College students accompanied the group. Lyght praised the experience and urged annual events.
