District 31 School Board Negotiator To Present Contract

Friday June 3 at 2 p.m. Ralph Smith will present the board's proposed contract package to teachers in Bemidji High School Board Room. Also Friday June 9 from 9 a.m. to noon a veterans advisory board rep will meet at the Beltrami County Courthouse annex to answer questions.

Perpich asks halt to aerial herbicide spraying on forests

Gov. Rudy Perpich urged federal and state officials to stop aerial spraying of herbicides on Minnesota public forest lands. He asked a temporary halt in seven northeastern counties and a nationwide Forest Service halt of 240, a common herbicide, until hearings determine environmental and health impacts.

Operation I D to Mark Homes in Bemidji Summer

Bemidji Police will run Operation I D during June National Burglary Prevention Month with two temporary workers visiting 700 to 1000 homes. They will distribute information and engravers to mark belongings and provide stickers for small items, checking engravers out at the police station and on the door.

Vandalism Burglary Reported at Central Corner Cleaners

Police say vandalism and burglary occurred at Central Corner Cleaners on 4th Street and Irvine Avenue. Changes and dispensing machines in the laundromat were broken into between Sunday and Tuesday. Damages and theft amounts were not estimated.

Lemons Brothers Plead Guilty to Disorderly Conduct

Douglas and John Lemons of Bemidji pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct after a plea bargain with the county attorney. Sentences were stayed for one year on good behavior. prior simple assault counts against two police officers from a Bemidji High School incident in March 1976 were dismissed. Judge James Preece presided as juror selection was halted by the plea.
