Consumer Price Index Dented by Food and Gas Surge
The June Consumer Price Index rose eight tenths of a percent led by food and fuel. Food costs climbed 1.5 percent with grocery prices up 1.9 percent while meat and produce rose 5.8 percent and 2.4 percent respectively. Gasoline jumped about 3 percent to around 57 cents a gallon, and real disposable earnings fell an average 0.4 percent. Prices for the year show a 9.3 percent rise.
