Heat Wave Hits Nation From New York To Mojave Desert

The Associated Press reports extreme temperatures across the country. Marines were evacuated by helicopter after 19 men collapsed in Mojave Desert heat. Temperatures topped 117 in the desert and rose to 112 near Phoenix and 107 in Las Vegas. Rail lines buckled near Paintsville Kentucky with 16 of 110 cars derailing but no injuries. Utilities urged cutbacks as outages and heat waves strained power grids.

Winds shift from south to west tonight as moisture chances fade from 30 percent today to 40 percent tonight and 20 percent Wednesday.

City Council passes traffic signals plan at mall entrance
