Volunteer effort buys mini bus for Ah Gwah Ching Nursing Home

The Ah Gwah Ching Nursing Home in Walker received a 12 passenger mini bus funded by a Volunteer Council after three years of stamp trading and donations. Elaine Grossman handed the keys to Jim Wahl who presented them to Bruce Pound as State Sen. Gerald Willet and Vern Lake spoke. Gov. Wendell Anderson offered encouragement and volunteers plan a lakeside day camp for residents.

Grand jury to probe Bemidji girl's death in Warroad area

A grand jury is asked to investigate the death of Joni Kay Stangle 16 found nude in the Warroad River near Warroad. William Boucha 20 was charged with first degree murder after being arrested in Warroad. The case involves a party the night before and injuries to Stangle's head and temple.
