Israel Raids Palestinian Camps In Lebanon Killings Reported

Israeli forces blasted refugee camps near Tyre in southern Lebanon by air sea and land, killing at least 13 people and destroying huts. Lebanese premier Rashid Karami said authorities seek the fate of U S colonel Ernest Morgan kidnapped in Tehran and urged swift release.

Ford asks Congress to shrink highway trust fund

President Ford urged Congress to cut the highway trust fund and allocate it only for completing and maintaining the Interstate system. He proposed letting states raise gasoline taxes by one cent while reducing the federal tax from four to three cents in those states. Funds for non Interstate roads would come from general Treasury revenues.

Beltrami County Board to discuss tax forfeited lands sale

Beltrami County Commissioners meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Courthouse to review the sale of tax forfeited lands. Dr. Adela Elwell of the Mississippi Headwaters Audubon Society will present a 35 page report on sale versus public ownership and the lands value for tourism and recreation. The week includes a veterans sale of 145 parcels and a July 11 public forfeit sale. The board will also consider bids on transcribing equipment for the Law Enforcement Center and discuss civil defense and county highway matters.

Bemidji City Council Sets 7:30 Regular Session Agenda

The Bemidji City Council will meet at 7:30 PM in City Hall to hear a public hearing on placing municipal sewer in the Nymore area, act on a home office permit for Frank Williams, review minutes from several committees, discuss extending water lines in Nymore, read ordinances on zoning and land condemnation for a water tank, address civil defense provisions, hear airport and water projects updates, and consider staffing for the Law Enforcement Center along with open meeting law recommendations.

The 3.5 million member CGT began a 48 hour general strike to curb Jose Lopez Rega's influence and his conservative economic policies as seven cabinet members resigned to President Isabel Peron in an effort to avert the action. The president did not indicate she would accept the resignations.

Israel delays Sinai withdrawal decision after Washington questions

The Israeli cabinet postponed for at least a week any decision on further withdrawal in the Sinai Desert to seek elucidations from Washington on issues in a proposed Egypt accord. Key questions include how far Egypt wants Israel to withdraw, acceptance of an early warning system, and U.S. replacement of oil Israel pumps from Abu Rudeis if withdrawn.

Operation Sunshine Report Tied to Miami Organized Crime Probe

Highway 2 Crash Kills Elderly Woman Near Bemidji

An elderly East Grand Forks woman, Esther L. Larson 84, died at the scene on Highway 2 west of Bemidji airport in a head on collision with a car driven by Richard R. Black. Black was critically injured and hospitalized, while Timothy Carlson 18 Nevis and passenger Steven Donway 18 Park Rapids two others were treated and released. A separate fatal motorcycle collision near Gonvick killed cousins David Schelquist 24 Monticello and Mike Schelquist 22.
