Death in motorcycle chase near Bemidji
Everett E. Gilchrist 20, of Solway, died after a high speed pursuit by Beltrami County deputies ended when his Suzuki motorcycle struck a parked 1961 Buick at 1708 Irvine Ave. Deputy Keith Olson and intern David Waginold tried to revive him at the scene. The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. after the rider sped through a stop sign and eluded the squad car three blocks behind.

Red Lake couple killed in Highway 89 crash
A Red Lake couple, Clarence Barrett 25 and Claudette Barrett 21, died when their car hit a bridge abutment on Highway 89 near Red Lake at about 9 15 p m Saturday. Barrett’s father John Barrett 48 was hospitalized in Grand Forks. Obituaries appear on page 2.

Violent summer storms take toll of property, lives

Roseau man survives jet crash in Jordan
A Roseau Minnesota man Thomas Olson and his mother survived a Soviet TU134 crash at Amman airport by jumping through a fuselage hole after the plane broke up on takeoff. Five of 84 passengers died and a nearby house was struck. Olson, a Ford Foundation official in Beirut, said he and his mother were not seriously injured.
