Cass Lake to Get Temporary Family Doctor Care
Dr Mildred Nordlund will reopen the late Dr C H Coombs office in Cass Lake on a part time basis to fill a local doctor gap. She plans 9 am to 5 pm hours with a nurse and a medic in the staff and will not handle night calls or obstetrics. The move comes as Cass Lake and about 90 Minnesota communities face physician shortages with Bemidji Hospital 15 miles away and a restricted Indian Health Service facility. Public groups including the Sportsmen Club and Chamber of Commerce helped form the doctor search committee and advertise for a full time replacement regional demand. Nordlund has decades of global medical service and retired twice, now returning to temporary practice at age 70 to serve Cass Lake residents, primarily the elderly and small children already seeking care locally.
