Referendum on gambling proposed by Minnesota senator

A Minnesota lawmaker urged a statewide vote on gambling with a proposed amendment creating a state gambling commission and later legislative decisions on any form of gambling. Sen. Edward Gearty argued for state operation of any gambling to prevent self‑serving losses, and said defeat should end the push for gambling. Other Senate actions touched on corrections policy and university budgeting.

Bemidji State hosts two concerts Wednesday night

Bemidji State College invites the public to two 7:30 and 9 p.m. concerts in Bangsberg Center. The wind ensemble and concert band present a homecoming after a Minnesota tour, directed by Alex Sidorowicz, featuring Charles Decker and Thomas Swanson. Dave Loggins headlines the 9 p.m. show at Memorial Hall gym, with advance tickets at the Union office for 2.50 students and 3 adults, 4 at door. Renoir painting recovered in London raid

Scotland Yard says a painting believed to be Renoir Woman in a Flowered Hat, valued at 150000 dollars and owned by Samuel Maslon of Minneapolis, was found during a raid in the Shepherds Bush area. A man was arrested for handling stolen goods. identity not released.

Huseby Rites Set at Concordia for 61 Year Old

Adolf W. Huseby 61 of rural Bagley died January 2 at home. Funeral January 29 at 7 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church Bagley with burial in Concordia Cemetery. Survived by two sons Duane Pasadena Texas Severn Bagley one brother Henry Bagley two sisters Clara Amoth Remidji and Mrs W Richards Virginia five grandchildren. Preceded by parents wife two sons two sisters two brothers. He was a World War I veteran.

Downtown Snow Removal Advisory Issued by City Manager

City Manager John Lloyd announced snow removal operations in the downtown tonight with parking banned on streets marked after midnight. Vehicles parked in violation will be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.

Weather State Forecast Snow and cold snaps

Snow begins this afternoon and continues tonight with 1 to 3 inches of new snow. Snow ends by Wednesday with flurries possible. Warmer tonight with highs in the teens to low 20s. Mostly north and northeast winds, temps around 10 above to 20s. Extended forecast calls for partly cloudy, very cold conditions with below zero lows Thursday through Saturday in parts of the state.
