Storm of the century hits Minnesota with deadly blizzard

The Associated Press reports at least 11 people died as a weekend blizzard paralyzed Minnesota. Fatalities include Arthur Matter 74 of Austin and Ernest Reimann 59 of Waltham whose deaths followed heart attacks and exposure during a drive to safety. Weather service warned the storm could become the state’s worst.

Bemidji Area Digging Out After Weekend Snowstorm

Residents of Bemidji and surrounding areas dig out after a weekend storm dropped six inches of snow, closing area schools and disrupting travel. Two deaths were reported in the Bemidji area due to the weather.

County snow plowing progress amid storm in Beltrami County

Beltrami County Highway Engineer John Kemp said over 80 percent of county roads should be plowed by late today as 18 plow units work at capacity. Priority flows from state highways to private drives with some routes closed until Tuesday. Two Clearwater County men died in the storm and Bemidji area efforts continue with numerous outages and canceled services.

Beltrami County Board Meets Tuesday to Review Land Status and Budget

The Beltrami County Board of Commissioners will hold its regular meeting Tuesday January 14 at 9 a.m. in the courthouse board room. A 10 30 a.m. hearing will decide removing Government Lot No 7 Section 10-146-32 from restrictive status in Frohn Township. Bids for office equipment in the new Law Enforcement Center will be opened. Marshall Alexander of Blue Cross Blue Shield will discuss proposed increased county employee coverage. Bill Okerman will update county surveyor status at 9 45 a.m. John Kemp highway engineer will present the monthly report at 1 p.m. A discussion on courthouse employee salary raises is set for 4 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.

Weather outlook with cold temps and slight warming ahead

The forecast calls for cloudy skies with a chance of flurries and very cold highs near zero to six above. Clearing tonight with subzero lows from eight below to eighteen below. Tuesday turns clearer and less cold with highs from five to ten above.

Snow Emergency Reports From County Sheriff Teams

Hubbard County deputies report two Menahga men stranded on County Road 111 nine miles from Park Rapids after an eight oclock Friday night. They were plowed out Saturday and treated at Park Rapids Hospital. A rural Park Rapids woman with a ruptured appendix was transported after three hours of help from a county snowplow. Cass County reports no major incidents though several residents remain stranded. Bagley police note no severe problems and local x rays for non storm injuries. A food delivery was made to Greensview Nursing Home.
